“I loved it – it’s the first weekend I think I have ever been on that combined arts, mission and community” That was Iain Campbell’s comment at the end of ReSource in London, a weekend visiting and experiencing life and mission with grace and moot in London.
Friday night kicked off in the City of London with Moot, crashing their Christmas party in their new home St Mary Aldermary where Joel was mixing tunes along with meeting people from Grace and Moot and engaging with Moot’s advent art project.
Saturday was over to Ealing to hear the story of Grace, an alternative worship community that has been going 18 years now. A mix of story and reflecting on mission in today’s world was followed by conversations in small groups on various things. Over to the curry house and then joining Grace for their advent service – a simple reflective theme surrounded literally by four stories of Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph and Zechariah projected on the walls of a white cube. Then 15 minutes silence to wait along with these characters in the story for the coming of God into the world.
Sunday a visit to Tate Modern – listening to culture and sensing where God might be speaking, calling in at Occupy near St Pauls before heading back to Moot to hear from Ian Mobsby on the story and mission of Moot with a particular focus on spiritual seekers. All rounded off by joining Moot for a quiet compline advent service reflecting on Mary.
Eight or nine years on (or whatever it is) ReSource weekends are still one of the simplest and best ways to learn about mission in today’s culture. Food, conversation, experience with people working it out in practice in their communities.
