More than 200 years’ experience
For more than two centuries, CMS has nurtured pioneering leaders in mission who have crossed geographical, cultural and contextual boundaries – sharing the gospel in uncharted territories, planting churches, building schools and hospitals, catalysing indigenous mission movements, bringing about transformation.
The Church of England has recognised that alongside pastors and teachers, pioneers are vital. There is now a designated pathway for ordination – Ordained Pioneer Minister (OPM) – for those with this call and gifting.
The Ministry Division of the Church of England invited CMS to be an approved pathway for training ordained pioneers.
CMS has also been identified and encouraged as a hub for pioneering mission leadership in the South Central region. Again, the course is open to lay and ordained pioneers.
The Crowther Centre for Mission Education
CMS has invested time and resources into the Crowther Centre for Mission Education. Based at CMS in Oxford, the Crowther Centre houses an extensive mission library with more than 29,000 volumes and important mission archives.
The Crowther Centre also benefits from regularly welcoming missiologists-in-residence, often from the majority world, who contribute to the teaching.
A vast network
CMS is a community of people in mission with a worldwide network of mission connections, from mission partners, to other mission communities and organisations, to links with indigenous, underground movements.
Pioneers who study with CMS have access to this ever-expanding array of mission leaders and practitioners. This will continue to be a valuable resource for participants as they seek ongoing support in their endeavours.
