Gavin Mart
Gavin is a singer songwriter and mixed media artist from Conwy North Wales. He is currently working as a Venture FX Pioneer for the Methodist Church in the Conwy area. Gavin always finds himself to be on the edge of church and beyond, where his faith can creatively engage with contemporary culture through innovation and imagination.

Sue Martyr
Sue is an artistic pioneer who is in Tolladine Worceseter where she is helping develop Christian community that is firmly rooted in the real world. |
Peter Jones
Peter is a contemplative activist who can’t help starting things! He has developed support networks for those offering counselling in prisons. He is currently exploring pioneer ministry and helping a local church engage in mission and start fresh expressions for those on the margins. Oh and he is also a university lecturer in Bournmouth! |
Ali Middleton
Ali Middleton has a wealth of experience working in pioneer situations and is currently engaged in a new project discerning what God is calling her to in a rural context. |
Steve Medley
Steve is a pioneer lay minister/church leader in Keresley Village, N Coventry. |
Katharine Crowsley
Katharine is developing church through cooking and sharing a meal with young people at cook@chapel, and through craft at craft@chapel in Hanslope. As well as pioneering she is also teaching students with special needs in Milton Keynes. |
Neil Wild
Neil lives in Banbury, is married to Carol and has three lovely kids, he has his own property conultancy business and enjoys the community in which he lives. He’s a leader of BCC and is keen to ask questions and explore new things. |
Angela Howarth
Angela and Chris (see below) lead St Stephens Church in Canley, an estate in Coventry diocese. It’s quite a remarkable story how they came to be leading and have grown the community there. Having been ordained deacon by Bishop of Coventry they were looking for some missional training and found CMS – the perfect fit! There’s an interview with them here. |

Neil is passionate about enabling organisations to achieve their life-changing potential and embraces a whole-life approach to faith/mission. He balances working for the NHS in London, supporting a local church to think and work differently, and enabling a charity. |

Karen Gray
Karen Gray has been involved in church plants in East Leeds for 13 years. She has initiated a number of projects in the city and is passionate about seeing her local church and community working together for good. |
Emma Maggs
Emma is currently training as a Baptist evangelist at Regents College. A creative partnership between CMS and Regents has created the way for students who are pioneering like Emma to do some modules with the CMS pioneers as part of their training. Emma is leading the way! |

Lisa is a born pioneer. She is currently leading youth ministry at St Johns in Blackheath. |
Tina Hodgett
Tina is Pioneer Team Vicar with Portishead Church of England. With an unusual job description of wandering as a pilgrim she is exploring creative ways to encourage people to consider the possibility of God in their midst. |
Laura Downs
Laura is a deep thinker exploring how mission, community and new monasticism might be help re-imagine an approach to mission amongst young people. She has engaged with one module mission spirituality to reflect on her calling and what’s next. |
Rob Ryan
Rob is an ordained pioneer minister in Kent. He connected with the pioneer training to do the missional entrepreneurship module as part of his ongoing training. Because the training is modular it’s easy enough to access in this way. Other ordained pioneer ministers might follow suit… |
Bex Thomlinson
Bex joined in with one module around vocation as that is her passion and has since been in lots of transition. Having now done a second – the missional entrepreneurship module – she is now working up a new idea – watch this space! |
David Sandberg
Married with three children, David helps lead a church in Wiltshire that looks to show the love of Jesus by serving the community and is praying for God to bring transformation. |
Sarah Roberts
Sarah has recently given up her job as a teacher to have time to reflect, explore and see which doors open. She is interested in working with incarcerated parents and their children, particularly looking at the role that schools can play in supporting families with loved ones in prison. |
Hannah Deaves
Hannah is ordained as a pioneer and as part of her ongoing training is doing the ReSource weekends/mission in contemporary society. She juggles pioneering, teaching and an emergent community in Ipswich called morph. |
Robert Pierce
Rob is a doctor who has just been selected for ordination training. By way of preparaton he signed up with us to do the ReSource weekends to get a sense of mission in contemporary society. |
Ruth
Ruth is a student with Guildford diocese but as part of her training joined the CMS pioneers for some Resource weekends. This was credited as an independent study module on her course – genius! |
Lou Smith
Lou gave a lift to Ali to an open day on the pioneer course and found it caught her imagination so signed up to do ReSource along with the ‘Mission in contemporary society module’! |
